Welcome to the Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern
Michigan (MOCSEM). Joining a club and learning about all
the procedures and activities can be a bit overwhelming.
This section describes how to get started with the club
and covers some of the benefits that are available to
members. We encourage all members to attend General
Meetings and other MOCSEM events to fully take advantage
of the benefits of membership. Feel free to introduce
yourself to other members at an event. This is a very
open, active club and we want everyone to feel welcome
and included.
When you join MOCSEM you are issued a laminated
membership card. This card is used as proof of
membership at club events and with businesses that offer
discounts to MOCSEM members, so keep it handy. The card
also contains your membership expiration date. Upon
renewal, you are issued a new card with a new expiration
date.
The club Board meets on the first Tuesday of each
month. While the general membership does not normally
attend these meetings, any member in good standing can
bring an issue before the Board either in writing or in
person at the Board meeting. If you have an issue you
would like to present to the Board, you may contact any
Board member to make arrangements.
General Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each
month and are open to all members and the general
public. The meetings are held at Joy Manor, which
is located on Joy Road just East of Middlebelt in
Westland. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm, but many people
begin arriving at 6:00 pm to mingle and to enjoy a
buffet dinner that is served at 6:30 pm. Cost for the
dinner is just $13 per person and includes soft drinks.
Meetings feature board member reports, club business,
speakers who cover a variety of Mustang-related topics,
open discussion and a 50/50 raffle. There is routinely
between 100 and 150 people in attendance at General
Meetings so they are a great chance to learn about the
hobby and network with others who hold a similar passion
for Mustang.
Events
MOCSEM is a very active club that organizes many
events throughout the year. Events may include car
shows, swap meets, cruises, cruise-ins, overnights,
dinners, bowling nights, factory tours, road rallies,
comedy clubs and many more.
The two biggest events of the year are MOCSEM's
Spring Swap and Sell in March and the Mustang Memories
Car Show and Swap in August which drew over 600 show
cars in 2010.
There is something for
everyone. Do as much as you like or as little as you
like. Just check out the
Events
section of this web site or the Events Calendar in each
issue of The Accelerator newsletter for complete
details about activities offered by MOCSEM. Please note
that some events are offered exclusively to MOCSEM
members and others are open to guests and anyone else
who loves Mustang. Any specific restrictions will be
listed in the
Events section.
Volunteer Opportunities
Every
job done at MOCSEM from the Board to show workers is
done on a volunteer basis. It is only through the
efforts of these volunteers that MOCSEM can continue to
be an active thriving club. Please consider volunteering
your time in some capacity. The biggest needs for
volunteers are for workers at the Spring Swap and Sell
and Mustang Memories, but with such an active club there
are also needs all year long in many different areas.
Unless you're in a coma, we can use your help! Just ask
any Board member where you can help out or get on our
email list
and you'll receive announcements telling you when
volunteers are needed.
Discounts
Many club sponsors and other businesses offer
discounts to MOCSEM members. Check the
Sponsors
and
Business Card Advertisers sections of the
Marketplace on this web site for a description of
what discounts are available. Some businesses will also
make special offers available from time to time to
MOCSEM members. The
Marketplace features a
Special Offers section to let you know what's
available. Remember, you will need to provide proof of
membership to receive these discounts and special
offers.
Classified Advertising
As a member, you are entitled to run a classified ad
on the club website and in the newsletter at no cost.
Ads should be a maximum of about 200 words and can
include for sale items or wanted items with up to 3
photos. They run for 3 months but you can extend that on
request. Submit your written ad to the
Web Site Administrator.
Business Card Advertising
Are you a business owner? You are also entitled to
run a business card ad on the club web site and in the
newsletter. Many of our business card advertisers also
find it beneficial to offer MOCSEM members a discount on
their product and/or services. Submit your business card
to the Web Site
Administrator.
Merchandise
A variety of MOCSEM logo and other Mustang related
merchandise is available to purchase. Items include
t-shirts, hats, jackets, antenna flags and more.
Merchandise can be purchased at any General Meeting and
